Manhattan, IL – A significant fire engulfed a pole barn in rural Manhattan on Saturday morning, with the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) responding promptly. The incident, occurring on the 17000 block of Spangler Road, was reported at approximately 11:30 AM.
MFPD units arrived swiftly, within six minutes of the call, to find a 30’x50’ structure emitting heavy smoke. A full still was declared, bringing additional firefighters and equipment to the scene. The fire crews successfully contained and extinguished the blaze within twenty minutes of their arrival.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported among civilians or the responding firefighters. The fire’s origin is currently under investigation by MABAS 19 Investigators.
The effort saw support from multiple fire protection agencies, including East Joliet, New Lenox, Frankfort, Lockport, Mokena, Monee, Elwood, and Homer, ensuring coverage for other calls during the incident.
