KANKAKEE, IL – The Kankakee Valley Park District (KVPD) is gearing up for an action-packed month of June, with a variety of events and activities for residents of all ages. From swimming parties to craft classes, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

For movie lovers, the River Road Sports Complex will host a free family fun night on June 2 at 8:00 pm, featuring the movie “Remember the Titans” (PG). Bring your blankets and chairs for a memorable movie night under the stars.

If you’ve ever been curious about curling, now is your chance to learn. The KVPD will be offering a two-week Learn to Curl class on June 4 and 11 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena. Get ready to sweep and slide your way into the world of curling for just $50 per person.

Splash Valley Aquatic Park will also be offering swim lessons starting on June 5. Whether you’re a beginner or want to improve your swimming skills, there are classes available for all age groups, starting from 6 months old to adults. Sessions are priced at $72 per person.

For those who enjoy crafting, the Vintage Crafts class on June 7 is a must-attend. Held at the Bird Park Quarry Building from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, this class offers a new craft project each month and is specifically designed for active adults aged 40 and above. Tickets are priced at just $5 per person.

Experience the magic of Cinderella’s Ball on June 11 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the KVPD Rec Center. Presented by the Acting Out Theatre Co., this enchanting event promises hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, and an unforgettable adventure. Tickets for ages 13 and above are $10, while children aged 12 and under can attend for $20.

If you have a green thumb or simply enjoy creating pottery, the Make A Planter class is perfect for you. Local potter Courtney Zimmerman will guide participants in creating their own unique planters in this two-day class, held on June 13 and 20 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Bird Park Quarry Building. Tickets are $130 per person.

For the horse lovers, the Wellspring Riding Academy is offering horseback riding camps and classes starting from June 13. Suitable for ages 7 to 16, participants can learn the basics of horseback riding at the academy’s Kankakee location. Visit the academy’s website for specific dates, times, and pricing details.

Looking for a fun and energetic workout? Join the POUND Fitness classes starting on June 14 at the Bird Park Quarry Building. Led by Veronica Featherston, these classes combine drumming, cardio, and strength training for an exhilarating fitness experience. The classes will run every Wednesday from June 14 to July 19, and tickets are priced at $80 per person.

On June 14, active adults can enjoy a leisurely Picnic in the Park along the scenic Kankakee River. From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Bird Park Pavilion 2, participants can savor a delicious lunch, engaging in conversation, and taking in the beautiful surroundings. Tickets are priced at $13 per person, with lunch provided.

For a night out without the kids, Date Night in the Park on June 16 is the perfect option. Adults aged 21 and above can enjoy live music by Logan Miller and Matt Shipley, as well as delicious food from Brother George’s BBQ and Zarates Tacos. The event will take place from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the Don Paler Bandshell, with free admission and food and drinks available for purchase.

Father’s Day will be celebrated in style at Splash Valley Aquatic Park on June 18. All dads can enjoy half-price admission with a paid child admission from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with the family while cooling off at the water park.

If you’ve always wanted to try kayaking, the Potawatomi Paddlers Association is offering a Kayaking 101 class on June 24. Open to ages 8 and above, this class will teach you the basics of kayaking and provide a thrilling experience on the water. The class will take place from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Splash Valley Aquatic Park, with tickets priced at $25 per person.

Young adventurers aged 6 and under can channel their inner paleontologist at the Dino Dig event on June 27. Participants can dig for dinosaur bones, enjoy dino-related crafts, and indulge in a dino nugget lunch from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Splash Valley Aquatic Park. Tickets for the dig-only option are priced at $12, while the dig and dip option, including lunch, is priced at $17.

Finally, on June 28, active adults aged 40 and above can enjoy a thrilling game of Bingo at the Bird Park Quarry Building. With dime games and exciting prizes, this event is guaranteed to bring happiness. Coffee will be provided, and each bingo card costs just $0.10.
