KANKAKEE, Ill – Are you a budding filmmaker? The Kankakee Public Library is calling all teen filmmakers to join their exciting summer event, the 48-Hour Film Fest, taking place in collaboration with Pathfinder of Kankakee. Get ready for a thrilling experience filled with creativity, learning, and a chance to win grand prizes!

The festival kicks off with FREE film classes held at the Kankakee Public Library twice a week, starting on June 6th. These classes will cover various aspects of filmmaking, including brainstorming techniques, script writing, setting up shots, and learning editing tools. To assist participants, all necessary equipment will be provided.

Classes will be held at the Roland B. Johnson Teen Zone on the library’s second floor from 3 pm to 4 pm, with the exception of July 4th. During the first class, teens will randomly select a person, place, and scenario, which they must incorporate into their final film to be considered for the grand prize. It’s a chance to showcase your creativity and storytelling skills!

Teens can work individually or form groups of up to four members. If needed, friends and family are allowed to act as extras in the films. However, the films must be written, directed, filmed, and edited by teens only. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification.

The film festival will take place on July 10th and 11th, with completed projects due on July 12th at the Kankakee Public Library. The grand finale will be the final showing of the films on July 13th at 5:30 pm, where a panel of judges will determine the winners. The grand prize winner will receive $100, and the second-place winner will receive $50.

Interested participants can sign up for the 48-Hour Film Fest at the Kankakee Public Library. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to unleash your creativity, learn valuable filmmaking skills, and win exciting prizes!
