WASHINGTON– Congressman Adam Kinzinger (lL-16) has launched a new movement Sunday to combat fringe members of the Republican Party.
The new movement, called American First, is designed to support new leaders emerging in America.
“This is no time for silence,” Kinzinger says in the introductory video posted on the Country First website. “Not after the last month. Not after the past few years. Someone needs to tell the truth. Someone needs to say what history needs to hear. So here I am. The Republican Party has lost its way.”
“This is about trying to fight to defend this party because it’s become so unmoored.” Kinzinger said, adding the movement is not about trying to build something for himself.
Early donors to America First include Bill and Melinda Gates. The movement is backed by Future First Leadership PAC, which has already raised over a quarter of a million dollars.
“My hope is that this grows,” Kinzinger said on a call this weekend with reporters. “This is about trying to fight to defend this party because it’s become so unmoored.”
Kinzinger did not report the movement to GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy prior to the announcement Sunday. McCarthy met with former President Trump this past Thursday.
