Stand Up With Sarah – a Breast Cancer Benefit for Sarah Fetterer
October 18 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Sarah Fetterer is a mom to four boys. They are her world.
After finding out she had Stage 2B breast cancer at 35, while still breastfeeding her youngest son, she went through chemo, a mastectomy, radiation and long-term treatment with tamoxifen. She was announced in remission in early 2015, and cancer had turned into an every six-month check-up with her oncologist. She was always happy to get a clean report.
As an active woman, she was relieved to get back to the work she loves, teaching fitness classes, and even getting certified as a restorative yoga teacher for breast cancer survivors. But, most of all she was happy to feel good enough to keep up with her four boys, now ages 17, 15, 13, and 5.
Early in April, she learned the worst news she could’ve imagined, the cancer is back and it has spread to her lungs and liver, just five months after her last clean check-up. After a CT scan, it was discovered that she had fluid around her heart as well. Thursday (4/25/19) they drained a quart of fluid from around her heart, and over a liter out of her right lung. She will remain in the hospital until they can insert a tube to drain the lung and devise a treatment plan for cancer.
8/8/2019 – Sarah had followup scans after her first two rounds of chemo and here is her update, “My scans came back with good news. The largest one in my liver shrunk a quarter of the way down. I still have a long way to go considering it was the size of a cantaloupe. I feel like I’m healing from my hospital stay and surviving cancer one day at a time. I’m trying to enjoy my kids and family every second of the day. “
