Bradley, IL – A new scam has surfaced in Kankakee County, targeting unsuspecting victims with fraudulent computer pop-ups.

According to the Bradley Police Department, individuals received a pop-up warning of a virus or security compromise, which prompted them to contact a scammer via a provided phone number.

Once contact was made, victims were reportedly tricked into buying gift cards and sharing the details with the scammer, leading to financial losses. One victim reported a loss of approximately $22,000, while another lost just under $3,000.
