BATAVIA, IL – A Batavia man, Brennan K. Loeffler, 36, residing in the 500 block of South Harrison Street, has been arrested in connection with a heart-wrenching case of animal cruelty that has shaken the community.

According to investigators it happened Friday, August 4, 2023, at approximately 11:22 AM, Batavia Police responded to a distressing report from a business in the 900 block of W. Wilson Street after a business representative made a grim discovery – a deceased feline inside a box. Security footage revealed an individual deliberately running over the cat multiple times with a motor vehicle before callously placing it in the dumpster the morning prior.

An extensive investigation was launched, with investigators able to identify the cat’s owner through a microchip scan. To the community’s dismay, it was revealed that a family member of the cat’s owner was responsible for this gruesome act of cruelty.

Working closely with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, charges were filed against Loeffler, who voluntarily surrendered to Batavia Police earlier this morning.  He was subsequently processed and transported to the Kane County Jail, where he now awaits Bond Court.
