Jacksonville, IL – Jacksonville and surrounding areas in west central Illinois are under a significant threat of severe weather this Tuesday, with the National Weather Service in Central Illinois issuing a Level 3 risk warning for tornadoes and very large hail.

According to forecasts, thunderstorms are expected to develop late Tuesday afternoon, moving northward from south of I-70. While some of these storms may initially produce only isolated hail and wind damage, conditions are set to intensify. Areas near and west of the Illinois River, including as far east as Havana and Jacksonville, face the highest risk. The primary concerns in these locations are tornadoes and hail larger than 2 inches in diameter.

Residents are advised to monitor updates closely and prepare for potential severe conditions during the primary timeframe from the afternoon into the early evening west of I-55, and late afternoon through the evening to the east.
