Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced Wednesday 980 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 36 additional confirmed deaths.

It’s the largest single day report of new cases since June 6th, when 975 new cases were reported. Since the pandemic began, IDPH is now reporting 149,432, including 7,099 deaths in Illinois.

On Wednesday, while testifying to the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, Governor Pritzker called for a national mask mandate for the nation. “It may even mean national restrictions that will be followed in every state,” Pritzker said during his testimony.

Illinois has mandated masks since May 1st.

As of Tuesday, the rolling seven day positivity rate in Illinois was at 2.5 percent, that increased to 2.6 percent on Wednesday.  Illinois announced its lowest single day death totals in back to back days this past Sunday and Monday, with six announced each day.

As of last night, 1,518 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 331 patients were in the ICU and 151 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
