KANSAS CITY, MO – An elderly man in Kansas City narrowly avoided falling victim to a Bitcoin scam on Monday.

According to police a concerned gas station clerk alerted authorities after observing the man depositing hundreds of dollars into a Bitcoin machine while on the phone with an unknown individual.  Detectives arrived shortly after, catching the man in the act. As the officers approached, the scammers abruptly ended the call.

The man’s daughter joined him at the scene, and together they visited his bank. Following the incident, the bank has decided to implement a precautionary measure: notifying the daughter of any substantial withdrawals from her father’s account.

The incident highlights the growing threat of scams targeting vulnerable individuals, especially the elderly. Law enforcement advises families to take proactive steps, such as gaining access to accounts and setting up withdrawal alerts. Remaining vigilant and informed is crucial in the face of evolving digital scams.
