KANKAKEE, Ill. – Police are reminding residents to secure their vehicles after a 9mm semi-automatic gun was stolen from an unlocked car on Monday night.

The owner reported leaving the weapon in the driver’s side door pocket and discovering it missing the following day in the 600 block of East Broadview Drive.

According to the police, warmer weather is aiding in a rise in car burglaries across the city. The police have received several reports of thefts in recent weeks and are urging residents to be vigilant and lock their vehicles to avoid becoming victims of theft.
