PONTIAC, Ill — Police responded to a possible “drive-by” shooting into a residence on Payson Street on March 2, 2023.
No injuries were reported, and preliminary evidence indicated that a single shot had been fired from inside the residence and exited through an exterior wall.
According to Pontiac Police, Edward Ross, a 25-year-old convicted felon and resident of the home, provided officers with possible suspect names regarding the alleged shooting. During the investigation, a search warrant was obtained, and a stolen 9mm pistol was located along with a significant amount of ammunition.
Officers report one shot had been fired from inside the residence and believed to have been caused by Mr. Ross’ careless handling of the loaded firearm. Ross was arrested for multiple felony offenses, and it was later discovered that he had made a false 911 call using a phone that had not been reported pursuant to his sex offender registration requirements.
Ross is currently awaiting a bond hearing and is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The Pontiac Police Department was assisted by deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff Department during the investigation.
