FRANKFORT TOWNSHIP – Two armed men executed a daring bank robbery in Unincorporated Frankfort Township, striking fear into the hearts of customers and employees as they gained access to the vault.
According to Will County Sheriff’s Police the robbery unfolded on Saturday at the BMO Harris bank located at 19500 S. Harlem Avenue at 11:40 AM when two unidentified black males wearing gloves and masks stormed into the bank, brandishing handguns in a brazen display of aggression. Numerous customers were present at the time, one suspect demanded money from a teller while the other accompanied a bank employee to the vault.
During the robbery, one employee was reportedly struck on the back of the head with a pistol by one of the assailants in their relentless pursuit of access to the vault.
The duo made off with an undisclosed amount of money, filling several bags they had brought with them before making their escape in a dark blue Dodge Challenger. The getaway vehicle was last seen heading northbound on Harlem Avenue.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and assist in any way possible to aid in the identification and apprehension of the suspects. Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) swiftly arrived at the scene, and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which has joined forces with local authorities to expedite the investigation.
