New Lenox, IL – A garage fire on Roberts Road, just south of Route 30, caused the temporary closure of the highway on Monday morning.

The New Lenox Fire Protection District received a call for a structure fire just after 10 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from a single-story residential structure, with most of the fire located in the garage. Multiple hose lines were used to put out the fire, which took 35 minutes to extinguish.

Unfortunately, one pet died, another went missing, and two minor firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
