Harvard, IL – A serious vehicle accident occurred in McHenry County, involving a young Harvard man.
According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on Monday, February 12th, 2024, around 2:15 p.m., when a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze attempted to overtake a semi-truck on US Route 14, leading to a collision involving three vehicles.
The accident resulted in critical injuries to the 19-year-old driver of the Chevrolet, who was transported to Javon Bea Hospital Riverside in Rockford for treatment. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which also involved a 63-year-old Lake Barrington man and a 63-year-old woman from Chicago, both of whom were unharmed.
NICOR Gas addressed a natural gas leak caused by the collision, and alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is still underway by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
