EVANSVILLE – Three people are dead and more could be counted for as rescue workers dig their way through residential streets littered with debris this evening.
According to Evansville Fire Department Chief Mike Connelly, whatever the explosion was that rocked a town left a 100 foot blast radius on N. Weinbach Ave, leaving 11 homes uninhabitable and 29 homes damaged.
The cause of the explosion remains a mystery tonight as multiple streets throughout the community have been closed off while rescuers work through the debris.
Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office’s confirmed at least three residents had died from the blast, adding there could be more to follow.
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is on scene investigating the cause of the explosion.
As many as 1,000 power outages were reported with the event earlier in the day.
