Byron, IL – A Park District employee inadvertently caused a security scare at Byron Middle School today, according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident occurred at 7:55 a.m. when the employee, carrying a long, slender case into the school’s theater, was mistaken for carrying a weapon. This sighting led to the activation of emergency procedures to protect students and staff.

Responding swiftly, additional units from the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and Byron Police Department joined the school’s Resource Officer at the scene. The investigation quickly ascertained that the case contained a banner for an upcoming show, not a weapon.
