St. Louis County, MO – The St. Louis County Police Department has issued a warning about a phone scam targeting local residents. Multiple citizens have reported receiving calls from a male individual who identifies himself as a sergeant or deputy with the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer informs the call recipient that they have missed jury duty and now have warrants out for their arrest. To resolve these fictitious warrants, the caller demands payment ranging between $4,000 and $5,000.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the fraudulent calls are currently being made from the number 314-500-8340. However, authorities warn that it is relatively easy for scammers to change the phone number to make it appear as if they are calling locally.
The police department emphasizes that this is a common scam and reassures residents that they would never make contact in this manner or demand money. Citizens receiving such calls are advised to block the number and report the incident to the police.
Officials urge residents to remain vigilant and avoid providing personal information or making payments in response to unsolicited calls. If you receive a suspicious call, contact the St. Louis County Police Department to verify its legitimacy.
