West Virginia Heat Warning: Severe Weather and Thunderstorms Expected

Charleston, WV – Residents of Charleston and surrounding areas should prepare for a hot and stormy afternoon as remnants of tropical system Beryl bring showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning, expecting temperatures to soar to 94 degrees by this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, WV, the heat index values could range from the upper 90s to low 100s across much of the lowlands, with heat warnings in effect. The high temperatures will be followed by a cold front, bringing showers and thunderstorms late today and into tonight. There is a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms, primarily in the mountainous regions.

Tonight, residents can expect very warm and sultry conditions with showers and thunderstorms as the cold front arrives. Temperatures will range from 72 to 77 degrees in the lowlands and 67 to 72 degrees in the mountains.

On Wednesday morning, the transformed non-tropical system is anticipated to bring strong storms and heavy rain to the middle Ohio Valley. The excessive rainfall outlook remains high as the cold front sweeps through the area, bringing slightly cooler temperatures and more rain. Highs on Wednesday are expected to range between 80 to 90 degrees in the lowlands and 75 to 87 degrees in the mountains.
