Grand Rapids, MI – Tropical moisture from the former Hurricane Beryl is set to impact Western Michigan tonight and Wednesday, bringing significant rainfall and a heightened risk of flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids has issued a Flood Watch for much of the area south of a line from Grand Haven to Mt. Pleasant.

According to the NWS, rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with localized amounts of 4 to 6 inches possible in a heavier band from Kalamazoo to Lansing. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take necessary precautions as the heavy rain moves in. Smaller creeks and streams are likely to flood first, with main stem rivers potentially reaching flood stage in some locations over the coming days.

The forecast confidence in flooding has increased since yesterday. Changes in the area of heavy rain are possible, but the overall threat remains high. As of now, the hourly forecast for Grand Rapids shows increasing chances of rain throughout the night, with temperatures dropping to the mid-60s.

For tonight, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, becoming more widespread as the night progresses. Rain will continue into Wednesday with a 90% chance of precipitation and temperatures around 71°F. By Thursday, the weather is expected to clear up, with sunny skies and a high of 80°F.
