Wilmington Man Sentenced to Probation for Aggravated Battery/Police Officer in Grundy County

MORRIS, IL – Richard Bingham, a 41-year-old resident of Wilmington, has been sentenced in a Grundy County court case. 

Bingham pleaded guilty this week to Aggravated Battery/Police Officer, a class two felony, and has been sentenced to 30 months of probation. Four additional charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

The incident occurred on March 8, 2022, at Morris Hospital when Bingham struck a male police officer in the chest area, causing the officer to fall back and hit the wall behind him. Bingham must also serve 60 days in the Grundy County Jail and complete a mental health evaluation.
