According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded around 9:08 p.m. Tuesday to the 1200 block of East McClure Avenue following a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found a 16-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the leg and a 14-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the hand. Both were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the male juvenile allegedly had a firearm in his pocket, which discharged accidentally, striking both himself and the female. During a search of the residence, officers allegedly recovered two firearms and a large amount of stolen merchandise, including items with store tags and anti-theft devices still attached.
A third juvenile, a 15-year-old male, was also taken into custody after detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division identified him as a resident of the home. He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm and ammunition under 21, and lacking a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card. He was later released to a parent.
The 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm under 21, and no FOID. He is expected to be transported to the Juvenile Detention Center after medical treatment.
The 16-year-old girl was arrested in connection to a prior business burglary (Case #25-11909) and will also be detained after medical clearance.
