Houston, TX – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to move into southeast Texas starting Tuesday morning, with the potential to flood roads and disrupt commutes across the Houston metro area within hours of onset.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, scattered to numerous storms will develop Tuesday and continue through Wednesday as a weak coastal trough sets up along the Gulf. Rainfall rates could reach 2 to 3 inches per hour in stronger storms, creating a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall both days.

The highest impacts are expected across Houston, Sugar Land, Pasadena, and Galveston, especially in low-lying neighborhoods and areas with poor drainage. Major routes including I-10, I-45, and the 610 Loop could see ponding water during heavier downpours, particularly during peak travel times Tuesday afternoon and again Wednesday morning.

Localized street flooding is the primary concern, though repeated storms over the same areas could worsen conditions. Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and allow extra travel time. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and ensure devices are charged in case of isolated power outages.

The storm pattern remains active through Wednesday night, with additional updates expected as rainfall totals and timing become more certain.
