State College, PA – Temperatures will drop sharply below freezing overnight across Pennsylvania, creating hazardous travel conditions and widespread risks to crops through late Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a Freeze Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight through at least 9 a.m. Tuesday for much of central and southern Pennsylvania, and until 11 a.m. for northern counties including Warren, McKean, Elk, and Clearfield. Overnight lows are expected to fall as low as 22 degrees in northern areas, with most locations ranging between 24 and 27 degrees.
Cities including State College, Altoona, Johnstown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Williamsport will experience several hours below freezing. Major roadways such as I-80, I-99, the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76), and I-81 may see patchy frost develop on bridges and overpasses, especially between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m., with colder northern المناطق holding icy conditions closer to late morning.
Agricultural impacts are expected to be severe. Early-season plantings, orchards, and vineyards across the Susquehanna Valley and central counties face a high risk of freeze damage. In western Pennsylvania, including the Pittsburgh metro, temperatures near 26 degrees will extend frost impacts into urban and suburban areas.
Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, protect exposed pipes, and avoid early travel where frost may be present. Allow extra time during the morning commute, especially on untreated rural roads.
Temperatures will rise above freezing by late morning Tuesday, but additional cold nights could extend the freeze risk across Pennsylvania through midweek.
