Tampa, Florida – Fires could ignite and spread within minutes across West Central and Southwest Florida today as dry air and gusty winds peak through the evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with east winds sustained at 10 to 20 mph and gusts reaching 30 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 29 percent, creating ideal conditions for rapid wildfire growth.
The warning covers a wide stretch of the state, including Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, Lee, and Pasco counties, along with both coastal and inland areas. In Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Bradenton, dry vegetation combined with steady winds could allow flames to move quickly across open land and key roadways like I-75 and U.S. 41.
Officials strongly advise against any outdoor burning. Even small sparks from equipment, cigarettes, or vehicles can trigger fast-moving fires under these conditions. Residents should secure trailer chains, avoid parking on dry grass, and keep water sources accessible.
These վտանգous conditions will persist through sunset, with additional advisories possible if dry weather continues into midweek.
