Paducah, Kentucky – Drivers and early commuters across western Kentucky will see a sharp shift within the next 24 hours as dry roads give way to wet pavement and reduced visibility by Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, dry and breezy conditions will hold through Thursday evening, with above-normal temperatures statewide. Rain and thunderstorm chances climb quickly Thursday night, peaking Friday with probabilities nearing 80% across western Kentucky and southern Illinois.

Communities along I-24 and U.S. 60, including Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray, could see slick roads developing before the Friday morning commute. While severe weather is not guaranteed, brief downpours may reduce visibility below a half mile at times. Utility crews are also monitoring for isolated outages if storms intensify.

The weekend brings a temporary break, with only low-end rain chances and continued warm temperatures. However, another round of storms is expected to redevelop by Monday, bringing a second wave of disruptions to travel and outdoor plans.

Residents should charge devices, secure outdoor items ahead of Thursday night winds, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. Additional advisories may be issued as Friday’s system approaches and again ahead of Monday’s next round.
