Quad Cities, IA/IL – An Arctic air mass will bring dangerously cold temperatures to Iowa and Illinois starting Sunday night through Wednesday. Wind chills will drop between -15°F and -25°F across much of the region. Areas north of U.S. Highway 30 may experience wind chills as low as -30°F.

According to the National Weather Service, dangerously low temperatures will persist, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Cities like Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Dubuque will face extreme cold, with wind chills reaching -28°F on Tuesday morning.

Residents should limit time outdoors, wear layered clothing, and cover exposed skin. Pets should remain indoors, and homes should have working carbon monoxide detectors. Checking on elderly neighbors and family members is also advised.

Cold weather headlines are likely to be issued. Travelers should prepare for icy conditions and potential delays. The extreme cold will ease by Thursday, but temperatures will remain below average.
