Students who are car riders headed to school at Alan Shepard in Bourbonnais this coming year will be leaving with style on a daily basis with the addition of a brand new canopy! Students can now wait outside and be protected from the elements at the school.
Students from kindergarten through college soon will head back to school. As families prepare for the new academic year, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and local emergency management agencies are encouraging parents to include emergency preparedness in their back-to-school plans.
“We are currently seeing the greatest number of measles cases reported in the United States since 1992, and since measles was declared eliminated in 2000,” said Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike. “This record number of cases is a reminder of the importance of continued vaccination. Help kids stay healthy as they head #VaxToSchool and make sure they are protected from 14 vaccine preventable diseases.”
When you talk football with Kankakee High School’s new varsity football coach, Derek Hart, you can hear the passion he has for the game in his voice. The 27-year-old Hart grew up in a football household. Hart’s father, John Hart is known as legend in high school football. The elder Hart has 294 wins and two state titles in Indiana. John Hart also has another 147 wins in Illinois. Hart says of his father, “He’ll probably end up in the Hall of Fame in Illinois and Indiana for high school football. He is successful and won a couple State Championships.”
The one-hundred seven heat index didn’t stop football fans from coming out to the Friday Night Lights Fest on Friday. The second-annual family-friendly football festival was held at BrickStone Brewery Production Facility in Bourbonnais, IL. The event was put on by the Kankakee Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Village of Bourbonnais and the Kankakee County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The festival is a community-wide pep rally and football field event presented by Bear Construction.
