CHAMPAIGN, IL – A Champaign man has been apprehended by authorities after an intensive investigation into two recent bank robberies in the city.
Edward J. Peppers, aged 45, was arrested on July 21, 2023, following the incidents that left local residents on edge.
The first robbery occurred on June 5, 2023, when Champaign Police responded to a report of a bank robbery in the 1600 block of W. Springfield Avenue. The second incident took place on July 18, 2023, at a credit union in the 1200 block of S. Mattis Avenue. In both cases, Peppers allegedly entered the establishments, brandished a handgun, and demanded money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of currency.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident.
Peppers is now in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center awaiting arraignment on multiple charges, including Armed Robbery.
