Will County and the City of Joliet are partnering with the Joliet Slammers to offer a day of baseball and family fun with an emphasis on water conservation on Sunday, July 21.
Employees from the County’s Resource Recovery and Energy division and the City’s Rethink Water campaign will be on hand to pitch ideas that not only help residents conserve water, but save money at the same time.
“Water is an important resource, and finding ways to save it that also save money is a homerun,” said County Executive Larry Walsh.
“We need our community to take action to reduce water waste, and this partnership with the Slammers to bring this message in a fun way is a grand slam,” said Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk.
Each attendee will be given a water saving device upon entering the DuPage Medical Group Field to watch as the Slammers battle the Gateway Grizzlies from Sauget.
Participants also will each be given a raffle ticket/water saving pledge card to fill out and turn in to one of the six booths on the concourse. Winners will be named between innings for prizes ranging from home conservation kits to the grand prize of an energy efficient dishwasher valued at $599 made by Beko in Bolingbrook.
Employees from Home Depot of Joliet will be onsite with the Will County Forest Preserve District, the Conservation Foundation, Will County and city to give out water conservation items and field questions.
The American Water Works Association’s mascot, Eddy the Water Drop, will throw the first pitch and tackle running toilet issues. A bounce house, provided by Channahon General Rental, and face painting by Lollipop painting will be available to visitors free of charge.
After the game, kids may run the bases and get team members’ autographs.
