Palos Park, IL – Residents and commuters in Palos Park will face significant detours beginning May 20, 2024, as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) starts a major culvert replacement project at the intersection of 131st Street and Southwest Highway.

The project, which involves the removal of an existing storm sewer box culvert and the installation of a new one at Mill Creek, will necessitate the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes on 131st Street near this intersection.

According to IDOT, the road closure is expected to last until November 4, 2024. Throughout this period, a clearly marked detour will redirect traffic via Southwest Highway, 135th Street, and Harlem Avenue to help motorists navigate around the construction zone. This extensive project is aimed at improving drainage and infrastructure resilience in the area.
