Felon Nabbed on Route 17: Gun Discovery in Late-Night Traffic

KANKAKEE, IL – A routine traffic stop on Route 17 near 1000 East Road escalated quickly when Illinois State Police District 21 reportedly discovered a felon with a loaded handgun late Friday night.  

Around 11pm, troopers flagged down a car for a violation, unearthing not just the reported firearm but allegedly, cannabis. 

The man behind the wheel, 40-year-old Ernest T Tyson of Pembroke Township, was slapped with charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, and Armed Habitual Criminal.
