MORRIS, IL – A Northfield employee has died after being ensnared in a grain auger at a facility located in the 3400 block of Bungalow Rd in Morris Monday.

Emergency crews responded quickly, extricating the individual from the machinery and rushing them to Morris Hospital. A subsequent transfer to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood was made, but despite fervent medical intervention, the worker died due to injuries sustained in the accident.

Oldcastle APG, which owns the company, issued a statement on the incident: “On Monday, October 16, a Northfield employee was involved in an accident at one of our facilities and later passed away while receiving medical care. We are deeply saddened by this loss, and are cooperating with authorities investigating the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends and team members.”

The incident has caught the attention of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which is now leading an investigation. Additionally, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
