Illinois Woman Accidentally Kills Son in Driveway Accident

Elgin, Illinois – A devastating accident occurred in Plato Township when an 85-year-old woman, Justine Ackmann, accidentally struck and killed her 63-year-old son, Steven Ackmann, while repositioning her vehicle in their driveway. 

This incident happened around 12:58 P.M. Wednesday in the 11N200 block of Romeo Drive. Reports from the Kane County Sheriff’s Department indicate that Justine’s foot slipped from the brake to the accelerator of her 2016 black Lincoln SUV, leading to the fatal collision. 

Emergency medical attention was provided at the scene, but sadly, Steven was pronounced deceased shortly after. 

The ongoing investigation, led by the Kane County Investigations and Evidence Divisions, along with Social Workers, seeks to uncover further details, including the vehicle’s speed and the use of safety equipment. The involvement of drugs or alcohol has not yet been determined.
