Morris High School Student Killed in Fatal Crash on Cemetery Road Sunday

MORRIS, IL – A Morris High School student lost their life in a single-vehicle crash Sunday that unfolded in the 4900 block of Cemetery Road shortly after 8 p.m. 

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan reported that a westbound truck, for reasons yet unknown, lost control, veering into the south ditch, and collided with a tree.

The passenger of the vehicle, identified by authorities as 16-year-old Giovanni Lara, of Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, who was not identified in reports, was transported to Morris Hospital for treatment. 

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
