Scottsburg, IN – In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a deadly altercation unfolded at an apartment in Scottsburg, Indiana, leading to the death of a local man.
The incident took place at 2929 E. SR 56, where Scott County Deputies were called to a reported shooting around 1 am. Upon arrival, deputies found that an argument between two male residents had escalated, resulting in one man shooting the other with a handgun.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Edward Milam Calton of Scottsburg, was promptly transported to Scott County Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.Indiana State Police (ISP) Sellersburg, including detectives and crime scene technicians, were summoned to assist with the investigation. While the details are still being pieced together, officials have stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. No arrests have been made, but all individuals involved have been identified.
The case remains under investigation as detectives continue gathering evidence to present to the Scott County Prosecutor, who will decide on any forthcoming charges. The family of the deceased has been notified of the tragic event.
