St. Joseph Charter Township, MI – A routine welfare check spiraled into a bizarre and deadly chain of events Monday evening, culminating in a Tennessee man’s death following a police pursuit and an officer-involved shooting.

Officers initially responded to check on a semi-driver in the Fairplain area on April 9. The situation took a wild turn when the 42-year-old Tennessee driver allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle, then fled and ultimately crashed into a residence on Riverbend Drive. An altercation ensued during the pursuit, leading to the suspect being fatally shot by an officer.

The suspect was declared dead at Corewell Health Spectrum Hospital.

The involved officer, injured during the incident, is on paid leave but expected to recover. Michigan State Police have taken the lead on this unusual case, conducting a thorough investigation.
