BRAIDWOOD, IL – The Braidwood Fire Protection District (FPD) is addressing a sign at Custer Fire Station claiming a “hostile Braidwood takeover.” The sign, circulating on social media, prompted Braidwood FPD to clarify their position on discussions with Custer FPD.
Braidwood FPD has been in talks with Custer FPD regarding fire and ambulance coverage. Discussions began after terminating a contract with Riverside EMS. Braidwood is considering options to better serve residents, including taking over operations and providing 24/7 staffed Fire and ALS (Paramedic) Ambulance coverage.
The FPD emphasizes their constructive approach and commitment to the community, dismissing claims of hostility. They acknowledge previous unsuccessful attempts at submitting an application for transport ambulance services, but Custer Fire has notified them of a pending approval at the state level.
To address concerns, an informational town hall meeting will be held on July 17th, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the High Road School.
Braidwood FPD encourages seeking accurate information and invites questions or concerns. They remain committed to communication and ensuring resident safety.
