Chicago, IL – Chicago and surrounding areas brace for two rounds of thunderstorms today, according to the National Weather Service.
An initial wave, occurring between 6 AM and 10 AM, will feature a quick-moving line of storms capable of producing gusty winds up to 40 mph, affecting most locales for approximately one to two hours. Following a brief respite, characterized by isolated showers late this morning, a second, potentially more severe batch of storms is forecasted to emerge from 1 PM to 5 PM.
According to the National Weather Service, this later round could bring scattered, strong to severe storms, with the risk of damaging winds and hail. While the majority of the area remains vigilant, locations southeast of I-55 are advised to be particularly cautious due to the possibility of brief tornado activity. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and prepare for changing weather conditions as these storms progress across the region.
