Darke County, Ohio – A skid loader accident on Medford Road left one man dead Sunday afternoon, prompting an active investigation.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Osgood Fire and Rescue were dispatched around 4:48 p.m. to the 7600 block of Medford Road in reference to a fatal accident.

Preliminary findings indicate that Steve P. Kramer, 65, of Versailles, was operating a Case 1845 skid loader while traveling eastbound with a large log positioned on the front of the machine. Investigators say the weight of the log was too great, causing the skid loader to tip forward.

Kramer was ejected from the equipment during the incident and became pinned between the boom and the skid loader. Emergency responders arrived on scene, but Kramer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location.

The Darke County Coroner’s Investigator also responded and is assisting with the ongoing investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have not released additional details at this time.

The incident may draw attention from local workers and students involved in agriculture or machinery operation, where equipment safety remains a key concern.

This remains an active investigation.
