KANKAKEE, IL – A suspicious incident unfolded on Tuesday morning when the Kankakee City Police responded to reports of an individual wearing a ski mask in the vicinity of East Maple and South Evergreen.
According to reports, a caller described the person as donning a blue hoodie and jeans, heading towards a downtown business. Officers swiftly arrived at the scene and attempted to stop the individual, later identified as 23-year-old Kyree A. Ervin of Kankakee. Instead of cooperating, Ervin took off running.
Following a pursuit, authorities apprehended Ervin in the 100 block of North Rosewood. Intriguingly, during the chase, it is alleged that Ervin lost a loaded firearm while jumping a fence. The gun was discovered by police in nearby bushes, close to the spot where Ervin stumbled.
Ervin is now being held at Jerome Combs Detention Center in Kankakee and faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
