Head-on crash on Route 17 claims life of Grant Park Woman Wednesday

GRANT PARK – A local woman was killed last night after a car hit a vehicle she was in with a group of others head on.

According to Illinois State Police it happened near 13400 East Route 17 last night around 5:30 p.m.  Reports say a car headed eastbound had been allegedly attempting to pass another when it hit a car heading westbound head on.  Four people inside the westbound vehicle were injured, one of the four, identified as Janet Verhurst, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the eastbound vehicle at this time.  Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the wreck.
