Illinois leads per capita daily testing, nears 100k cases

Tuesday afternoon, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced Illinois now leads in per capita daily testing. The Governor called the update “significant measurable progress.”

“Illinois has now overtaken New York as the No. 1 state in the nation for per capita testing over the last seven days,” Gov. Pritzker said. 

The Governor added all four regions in the state are still on pace to reopen to the next step in Illinois’ Phased reopening plan, which moves into Phase 3 on May 29th.

Illinois Department of Public Health officials announced 146 deaths on Tuesday, including deaths in one in Iroquois, three in Kankakee, and five in Will County. 

In total, there are now 98,030 total cases in the state since the pandemic began, including 4,379 deaths across 100 counties in Illinois.
