Indianapolis, IN – In a proactive movement to ensure public safety, Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb has declared a statewide disaster emergency in anticipation of the solar eclipse slated for April 8, 2024. This rare astronomical event, last witnessed in Indiana in 1869, has prompted the governor to sign Executive Order 24-05.

The order is set to support the state through the unique challenges posed to public safety, emergency services, and infrastructure due to the large crowds expected to witness the celestial spectacle. The declaration is a strategic step to prepare for the vast number of visitors and to ensure seamless coordination among various agencies.

The disaster emergency is projected to be in effect until April 9, allowing the state to be optimally positioned to address any issues that may arise during this once-in-a-lifetime event.
