The arrest stems from a six car wreck that took place in November 2022 at the intersection of Willowcreek Road and Lute Road.

Thompson, a Chesterton resident, was known for her dedication to teaching and had recently graduated from Purdue University.

Schmidt is now being held at the Porter County Jail, facing multiple felonies, including Reckless Homicide and Aggressive Driving Resulting In Death.
