Lake County, IN – The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force has slapped murder charges on Dahvee Brunson and Kriston Barbee, both 17, for their alleged roles in the killing of thirteen-year-old Orie Dodson on February 15, 2023.

The charges cap a six-month investigation led by the Homicide Task Force, uniting detectives from the Gary Police Department, the Indiana State Police, and Indiana State Excise Police, supported by the F.B.I. and A.T.F.

According to investigators evidence ties Brunson and Barbee to the crime scene and the notorious 49th Avenue Boys Gang. Besides murder, they face firearm and criminal gang enhancements, which could lock them up for 150 years each.

But this revelation’s tremors extend beyond these two. The Homicide Task Force’s investigation reveals a tapestry of criminal behavior woven by the 49th Avenue Boys Gang. Multiple homicides, drug trafficking, illegal guns, and violence sprawl across Lake County’s underbelly.

A call for information rings out, urging those with insights on Dodson’s murder or gang activities to step into the light. Tipsters can contact the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force hotline at 219-755-3855.
