Kankakee, IL – The Dr. King Education Center, a cornerstone of hope in the Kankakee community for over three decades, has transformed its assets into scholarships for Kankakee Community College (KCC) students. The center’s board, including Louise Bigott, Steve Hunter, and Dr. Willie Davis, has donated $18,352 to the KCC Foundation. This contribution reflects their commitment to education as a path to a brighter future, a mission shared with KCC. The donation also honors Judy Thomas, the center’s long-serving business manager who passed away in 2014. Her son, Dr. Brad Thomas, was present at the check presentation ceremony.
Established in 1968, the Dr. King Education Center collaborated closely with KCC, providing vital programs such as adult education, GED preparation, and job skills training. KCC continues to offer these programs, emphasizing their long-standing partnership. Kari Nugent, KCC’s vice president for advancement, expressed deep gratitude for this enduring support.
KCC’s Department of Adult and Community Education provides no-cost educational programs for adults seeking to complete school or improve English language skills for better employment opportunities. Interested individuals can enroll by visiting adulted.kcc.edu or calling 815-802-8300.
