Lake County, IL – Woman, Child Safely Evacuated in Two-Hour Standoff with Armed Man in Deerfield

Lake County, IL – In a critical situation, Lake County Sheriff’s deputies effectively managed a tense standoff involving a man in a mental health crisis. 

According to police reports on April 9, 2024, authorities were called to a residence in unincorporated Deerfield where a man, reportedly armed and threatening, had barricaded himself. Quick action led to the safe evacuation of a woman and child from the scene, removing them from immediate danger.

The standoff continued as the man locked himself in a bathroom with a firearm. 

For nearly two hours, deputies engaged with the individual, focusing on de-escalation techniques. Their efforts culminated in the man agreeing to surrender his weapon and exit the bathroom without incident. 

He was subsequently transported to an area hospital for mental health evaluation and treatment. No further details surrounding the incident were released.
