GURNEE, Ill. – Chaos erupted at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee on Monday night when a fight broke out between two groups inside the park, escalating and spilling into the parking lot.
The incident left four individuals hospitalized, including one police officer and three teenagers.
According to Gurnee Police, officers swiftly intervened around 7:15 p.m Monday but initial attempts to disperse the unruly crowd were unsuccessful. In a bid to restore order, a Gurnee officer deployed OC Spray. With the situation intensifying, the Gurnee Police Department called for assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Ultimately, six teenagers were apprehended, four from La Porte, Indiana, aged between 14 and 17, and two from Lake County, aged 16 and 18.
Police report four officers sustained minor injuries in the incident. While three received on-site medical treatment from the Gurnee Fire Department, one officer was transported to the hospital. Fortunately, all four were discharged the same night. Three of the arrested individuals were also briefly hospitalized for minor injuries before their release.
The Gurnee Police Department is continuing its investigation into the brawl at Six Flags Great America, which left visitors shaken and raised concerns about park security along witness on the scene.
The identities of those involved in the altercation have not been disclosed, and charges are still pending.
