Chicago Police Officer Murdered: Four Teens Facing First-Degree Murder Charges

CHICAGO, IL – Police have charged four individuals with the murder of Chicago Police Officer Areanah Preston, who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Friday night. 

Jakwon Buchanan, 18, Joseph Brooks, 19, Trevell Breeland, 19, and a 16-year-old boy who will be tried as an adult, have been charged with first-degree murder, as well as a range of other charges including armed robbery, arson, burglary, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. 

According to police, the four suspects were out looking for robbery victims when they encountered Officer Preston. She returned fire, but was fatally wounded. The suspects fled the scene with her weapon. 

A procession and vigil were held in Officer Preston’s honor on Tuesday.
